Baby Hike

baby pack.jpgIt was a glorious sunday and we decided to spend the day together. We knew on monday that I was going to have to start working hard on Taniwha again and this would be the last time in awhile we could all be together. We started out as you do on a sunday with a nice Full English breakfast. For the non-europeans this is their equivalent to our pancakes, eggs, bacon and hashbrown breakfast. It is bacon, sausage, two fried eggs, baked beans, grilled tomatoes and mushrooms and toast. Yummy! Then we went to the sunday open air market. It is mostly geared towards tourists but there are some amazing things to see there. People from all over africa live here and they bring some really beautiful things. Mind you, there is a lot of kitchy crappy stuff as well!

baby pack.jpgWhat do we find as we are struggling to push the monster pram through the dirt and bark - a baby backpack! We have been looking for something to carry Saoirse in for ages. We have a brazilian sling, an african sling, and a trekking backpack. She hates the slings and is too young for the backpack. We put her in and took her for a test stroll not just to see if she liked it but also to see if Jackie liked it. Saoirse is not the lightest baby as you can see from her photos so we needed to make sure Jackie’s back could take it as well. Both did so well we decided to go on a hike.

I run to the store and grab some food for a picnic, we pack our bags and pack up Saoirse and head for the mountain. The day was beautiful and so was the view but the heat turned out to be a bit much. We hiked for about an hour total. It would have been fine for us, but we were worried about Saoirse as we need to break her into the heat slowly and hiking up a mountain without any breeze didnt fall into the slowly category.
